Public service announcement

The Book of Proverbs doesn't touch much on bear attacks. Thank Goodness we have Dwight Schrute from NBC's The Office to fill in the gaps:

$50 for bear repellant spray probably seems like a rip off until there's actually a bear outside of your tent.

just wonderin ...
has anyone ever heard of "bear bells"? I grew up pretty much in the mountains of North Carolina -- with snakes and lynx and ... o yeah, bears, everywhere. "USUALLY" none of them bothered us too much -- most wildlife tends to stay to theirselves until humans annoy them too much. ANYHOO ... getting back to the bear bells. campers would come up ... mostly urban would-be-know-it-allers ... the locals would sell them tiny little strips of cloth loaded down with the prettiest teeny bells. The shop owner would explain that the bells were to be worn around the hikers ankle or wrist. the sound of the bells tinkling was supposed to scare off bears. campers would snatch them up left and right. the thing is, bears LIKE small sounds -- they are drawn to it. so locals would often to those little strips as "dinner bells".
